AIAMED is primarily concerned with supporting its members (capacity building) and secondly to support the micro enterprise and micro-finance sector (Institutional Development). This involves strategically strengthening the capacity of organisations to combine social with financial intermediation. This helps in long term viability and sustainability

AIAMED strategy is to provide platform for Development Finance Practitioners to come together, share and experience similar vision of empowering the poor without handouts or subsidies. The following three services are provided to member organisations in areas where they feel the need for improvement.

  1. Professionalisation of Operations: consists of specialised training and workshops, followed by on-the-job guidance. Where needed, external expertise will be brought into the programme, both to assist in the training and workshops, as well as to further strengthen AIAMED’s own capacity.
  2. New Product Development: consists of non-academic, but high-quality action-research in new products and services in development finance. Possible products to research are micro-insurance, pension schemes for small and micro-entrepreneurs, special interest group lending methodologies etc.
  3. Development Impact: is an ongoing and needs-based programme in impact studies and evaluations of AIAMED’s member organisations and their development finance projects. Included here are also the development and testing of new impact methodologies.

By training, equipping and empowering these delivery organisations, AIAMED fulfils its mission. AIAMED’s commitment is to work with organisations which maybe only a seed at this moment, but with AIAMED’s help they can grow into healthy saplings with the potential to become fruit-bearing trees.
